Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-04-22 · Version: 1.0

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the QuietRoots mobile app and website (together, the "Service") operated by QuietRoots ("we", "our", "us"). By accessing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Draft v1.0. This is a starter version intended for review by qualified counsel before public launch. Jurisdiction-specific adjustments (Wyoming, USA) and product-specific clauses (subscriptions, B2B organization tier) require legal review.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. Users between 13 and the age of majority in their jurisdiction must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. By using the Service you confirm you meet these requirements.

2. Your Account

When you create an account you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.

3. The Service

QuietRoots offers daily passages from ancient wisdom traditions, a personal practice journal, and — in a premium tier — expanded library access and advanced features. We may add, modify, or remove features at any time. Material changes that reduce functionality you rely on will be communicated through the Service or by email before they take effect.

4. Subscriptions & Billing

Some features require a paid subscription. Billing is processed by our payment providers (Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe depending on the purchase channel). Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled through the same channel used for purchase. Refunds follow each provider's own policy — we do not process refunds directly for store-based subscriptions.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of any notes, highlights, or journal entries you create in the Service ("User Content"). You grant us a limited license to store and display your User Content solely so we can provide the Service to you. We do not sell your User Content and we do not display it to other users unless you explicitly share it.

6. Organizations

You may create or join an organization ("Org") to use the Service with a private group. The user who creates the Org is its administrator and may invite, remove, or change the role of other members. Joining an Org does not share your private User Content — only content you explicitly publish to the Org becomes visible to its members.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others;
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise extract the Service's source content beyond the features the Service itself exposes;
  • Attempt to interfere with, disable, or circumvent any security or access controls;
  • Upload malicious code or content that is illegal, harassing, or infringing.

We may suspend or terminate access for violations without notice when necessary to protect users or the Service.

8. Intellectual Property

The ancient texts featured in the Service are in the public domain; translations and commentary may be under third-party licenses we have cleared for use. The QuietRoots name, logo, design, and original curation and editorial work are our property. You receive a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the Service; no other rights are granted.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers (for example, Apple App Store, Google Play, Firebase, Stripe, Cloudflare). Your use of those providers is subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for their services.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Ancient wisdom texts are offered as educational and reflective content; they are not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) US$100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your violation of these Terms, your User Content, or your misuse of the Service.

13. Termination

You may close your account at any time via the Service or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms or where required by law. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law) continue in effect.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the Service or by email at least fourteen days before taking effect, unless the change is required by law or to address a security issue. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict of law rules. You and we agree to resolve any dispute first through good-faith discussion (email support) and, if unresolved, through binding arbitration in Wyoming, unless applicable consumer protection law entitles you to a different venue. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under mandatory law of your country of residence.
